Now comes the Questions: X-Men- First Class

Bryan Singer has cleared the air about the X-Men: First Class plot. We now know it takes place in the 60s, focusing a lot on Xavier and Mags.

But after a few days of mulling about this, more questions have developed about this flick. I'd hoped my fears would die down, but really, they are at the same place.

So here are a few of my questions besetting this psychedelic mutant madness:
  • Why is Havok in this movie and not Cyclops? Scott is the older brother.
  • If this is in the 60s, why would Emma Frost be in it?
  • The Hellfire Club didn't get rough until the 70s, actually late, late 70s. What will be their role in this movie?
  • If they make Nightcrawler's daddy the creator of the Hellfire Club, I'm boycotting the film! Okay, that's not a question, but I had to say it.
  • Why even call it X-Men: First Class if it has nothing to do with the the ORIGINAL FIVE?
  • Will this movie feature another 1st group that includes Amelia Voght ? And if so, will they use the easy way out (time travel) to get back on track?
  • Will Xavier's school be up and running?
  • Will Gabrielle Haller make an appearance? She was around during that time.
  • Is it possible that Magneto will have a team?
  • Will other Marvel peeps show up in this film?
  • At what point will this flick tie into the X-Universe we know and love?
  • And will this be a flick X-Fans will love?
I want to like this concept, I really do. But I'm getting to the point that too much departure from the official comic book, is not the business.

The X-Men have a rich history. There's no need to remix the story or add in millions of mutants to tell it. They could stick with the original stories with a few changes... Minor changes.

I hope this comes together, because it this falls out, I'm done.

Unless Joss Whedon writes and directs the next one.

I'm with you here........... I do not like it when they stray from the cannon of the comic / original.

Yeah, it's starting to get too crazy. If Bryan Singer wanted to start at the begining, why didn't he do that when he made the first X-Men movie originally?
I think the 2nd X-Men movie was the only one that was really ok.
You're questions are 100% on point about Havok, the First Class title, etc.
Why the hell would you do first class without Jean & Scott? Why the hell would they do First Class with Nightcrawler????

I....I don't know what this movie will be. They messed the ages of the characters up so much that there really was no way to have the original five unless they rebooted.

I can accept that it should have the older X-Men characters from the first few movies if it wants to be inline with the "later" ones.(Meaning characters with grey or greying hair.) It's set in the 60's so only the oldest of old characters can be in it. So Charles, Magneto and Beast make sense. Beast should be very close to the same age as Charles and Magneto though. Banshee is ok because his daughter shows up in a later movie. Mystique could make sense because technically she can be any age. But they show her in her human form which is about the same age as Jean. Maybe they'll argue that her ability slows hers aging to some degree.

The White Queen would be fine if it weren't for her appearance in Wolverine as a young woman, which makes her too young for this movie. The actress playing her in First Class is obviously an adult in her thirties, while the person who plays her in a film that occurs later is in her twenties.

In Wolverine, Xavier appears but is bald and still walking. In First Class, Xavier will have hair and be walking. I know he'll lose his hair in this movie, not sure if he'll still be walking by the end of it. Never the less, Xavier can't get Scott or meet Emma until after the events in Wolverine. Which throws off that continuity as well.

They may give Scott a very different origin than the comic. They seem to have changed the order and have Havok born first? But then there is a big gap between the brothers. Not sure when the third brother will show up if at all.

So at the end of the day, the biggest mess ups are Emma Frost and Mystique. Havok is arguable since they seem to be doing whatever they want with the character histories anyway. Maybe we have to look at it as a What if? or Elseworlds story.......
